Operation Husky: A Geographical Perspective

In July 1943, Canadian soldiers took part in the Allied invasion of Sicily. In a campaign called Operation Husky, the untested 1st Canadian Division fought and died in the inhospitable Sicilian countryside. Seventy years later, a group of Canadians followed in their footsteps to commemorate and honour the actions and sacrifices of those often-overlooked Second World War soldiers. Canadian Geographic Education has created five classroom activities that offer a geographical perspective on Operation Husky from the impact of the physical landscape and the climate to the location of memorial markers.
