Virtually connecting students to Canadian history and explorers!

#ExploreCan is a new program created by Canadian Geographic Education, in partnership with Exploring by the Seat of Your Pants and Heritage Canada. From September 2021 until March 2022, there will be monthly virtual events and learning resources made available for K-12 Canadian educators. Monthly themes will focus on early and ongoing exploration of Canada, science, and environmental stewardship, with a larger focus on truth and reconciliation woven throughout the entire program.

Monthly themes:

September 2021: Truth and reconciliation
October 2021: Space, science and research
November 2021: Canada’s North
December 2021: Knowing the land
January 2022: Indigenous languages
February 2022: Women and STEM
March 2022: Water sustainability and protection

Learning resources

September 2021: Truth and Reconciliation
Since time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples living on Turtle Island engaged in treaties, either verbally or through ceremony. It was only after the arrival of Europeans that treaties began to be written down or become more like contracts. The following educational resources were developed as a way to introduce students and teachers to the diversity of historic and present-day treaties and agreements.
