The Phyllis Arnold Professional Development Grant supports the career growth and educational capacity of Canadian educators working in the field of geography by encouraging participation in a wide range of development opportunities and school initiatives.
Background
Phyllis Arnold, a former Governor of the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, has invested in geographic education by establishing an endowment fund in her name to strengthen pedagogy and practice in Canadian schools. Phyllis Arnold’s Arnold Publishing has sold approximately one million innovative and highly visual geography, history and social sciences texts nationwide.
Canadian teachers, regardless of the career stage they are in, are invited to apply for a Phyllis Arnold Professional Development Grant to enhance their ability to deliver quality geographic education within their school community. Applications are accepted annually from educators who are actively teaching in K-12 classrooms in Canada. The grant must be applied primarily towards professional development, and can be extended towards the enhancement of pedagogy and educational practices in support of geographic literacy. Recipients are selected by a jury of Can Geo Education Executive members.
